About

I live in Cheshire in the North West of England and have been a keen amateur photographer since the mid 1980s when I received a Canon AE-1 Program film SLR camera as a birthday present.  I bought my first digital camera in 2003.  Since 2010 I have mainly worked using a Canon EOS 7D.

Over the years much of my photography has been centred on local areas – the towns and villages of Cheshire along with its countryside and its famous gardens and estates.  The historic city of Chester has frequently provided a wealth of subject matter with its great many half-timbered buildings, Roman features and lively riverside setting known as The Groves.  North of Chester lies the Wirral Peninsula which also affords me lots of camera opportunities and is the nearest place for me to visit for coastal photography.

My favourite tourist location is unquestionably the Lake District.  As I live close to the M6 Motorway, the journey up to central Cumbria only takes about an hour and a half, so I can easily travel there and back in a single day.  I particularly like to visit in late October or early November when the autumn colours are usually at their best.

In recent years my interest has generally shifted away from landscape photography towards still life and macro work.  I have developed a passion for bokeh photography and often like to shoot with wide apertures which afford a shallow depth of field.  I also enjoy using Photoshop Elements to present some of my photography in a more inventive way and am keen to experiment with filters, layers and blending modes.
